Mr. Avi Paz is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Avi Paz Group, one of the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of large round and straight-edged fancy diamonds.
Born in Cuba and raised in Belgium, Mr. Paz is a descendent of the Goldberg family – well-established diamond brokers in Russia and Belgium. As such, Mr. Paz learned the ways of the family business from a very young age. After moving to Israel, he founded his own diamond trading company in 1971. Under his leadership, and with a team of hand-picked specialists, the Avi Paz Group quickly established itself as one of reputable prominence in the diamond industry.
In April 2005, Mr. Paz was elected President of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE), one of the foremost bourses in the global diamond industry, with approximately 2,400 members and one of the largest, most sophisticated trading halls in the world. His election followed a six-year term on the IDE board.
In 2008, at the World Diamond Congress in Shanghai, Mr. Paz was named President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) – the international diamond trade's umbrella organization. Mr. Paz was re-elected for a second term as President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses in July 2010.
As WFDB President, Mr. Paz' responsibilities include leading the global organization and determining its priorities, activities, direction and goals for the future.
