Celebrity engagement rings often inspire couples worldwide and this year, they reflected lovers’ classic yet eclectic style.
The Celebrity Engagement Ring Trends Report for 2017, published by the 77diamonds.com website, surveyed 100 of the highest-profile celebrity proposals in recent years and found surprising facts about celebrity couples favorite rings, diamond shapes, and even time of year they popped the question.
According to the survey, between 2013 and 2015, platinum was the hottest trend for celebrity engagement rings, but this changed to white gold in 2016 and to yellow gold in 2017.
The oval cut diamond was the go-to style in 2013 and 2014, but since then, the emerald cut has been the preferred choice. Cost per carat has changed dramatically since 2014, the survey found, saying that while both “value and carat are on an upward trend, celebrities have been spending much more on diamond quality than in previous years.” The average ring cost reached a whopping $1.35 million in 2016, the report said.
Other trends focused on seasonal preferences: Most celebrities got engaged over the summer or between December and January. Nearly all celebrities chose to let their fans know of the happy occasions via Instagram, posting images of diamond engagement rings on the photo-sharing mobile app.
According to the data, celebrities marrying for the first time spent on average 0.39% of their net worth on the ring, while second-timers tended to pull out all the stops and shell out an average $3 million on the perfect engagement ring and accessories.
In 2017, the average celebrity engagement cost about $660,000. Among celebrity couple who got divorced in 2017 rings averaged on $1.1 million.
