The recently concluded autumn-winter 2017 fashion weeks worldwide proved, once again, that diamond jewelry is timeless and classic, no matter the season. Moreover, trends first spotted on the runways are increasingly having an impact on high jewelry design and styles.
As seen on the glitzy red carpets of the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes, diamond earrings remain the go-to high-end accessory on the catwalks.
Federica Imperiali, trend expert for diamond giant De Beers’ Forevermark brand, explained that “in colder months, we tend to cover up more, so it makes sense that for autumn and winter, earrings will come to prominence, as they are not dependent on sleeve length or open necks.”
Alongside the dainty solitaire diamond earrings and the classic drop and dangle styles, statement earrings are increasingly in-demand for diamond jewelry lovers, and this season’s runways showcased a multitude of oversized hoops, large solitaire gems, and cluster diamond studs combining multiple cuts in a single design.
Neckwear was also prominent on the catwalks, which short diamond necklaces and chokers dominating the looks, mostly featuring round stones and fully pavéd surfaces with smooth, curved forms, giving chokers a sleek, modern look.
Diamond bracelets, cuffs and arm-wear also sparkled this season, as AW17 shows featured stunning wraparound styles, which looked very delicate and feminine despite their oversized scale. This season’s diamond bracelets fashion created an overall effect that cleverly blended modern and vintage looks.
Rings shined brilliantly as well, with vintage designs taking center stage. The classic heirloom styles received subtle updates via larger-than-usual stones or proportions, sometimes in sculptural floral form, making the diamonds dazzle from every angle.
The stunning array of diamond jewelry styles featured in the shows striving to set the fashion trend for the next two seasons clearly showed diamonds’ cross-cultural appeal, which compliments every style.
