A 35th Anniversary George Daniels watch, one of just 35 ever made, realized $291,000 (£224,500) at the latest Bonhams auction. According to Gem Konnect, the watch was sold for double its pre-sale estimate. This is the highest ever price achieved for a watch made by Daniels.
The watch, marking the 35th anniversary of the collection, took three years to design. “This is one of the most outstanding watches I have ever had the privilege to handle,” Jonathan Darracott, Bonhams’ global head of watches, is quoted as saying, The appearance at auction of a George Daniels’ watch is always an event, and it wasn’t surprising that we fielded bids for this exquisite piece from all around the world. We are delighted with the result.”
The proceeds from the sale of the watch, one of 12 in a collection belonging to businessman Robert White who died of cancer in 2015, have been bequeathed to build new cancer facilities at Poole and Dorset County hospitals, benefiting patients across the UK.
