Recently in New York, in mid-October, the top brand watches in the world convened for the WatchTime New York exhibition to show off their newest timepieces. Five of them, according to a piece dedicated to the subject on Forbes, were some of the most expensive watches on the market — totaling well over $1.75 million. Here they are:
Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater Openwork watch: part of the brand’s Charming Bird collection, the Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater Openwork has moving automaton birds that flutter differently as the watch’s minute repeater chimes. It has a sapphire dial and hand-painted, hand-engraved 18-karat gold bird sculptures. Just eight pieces will ever be made of this unique timepiece, which comes encased in 18-karat white gold.
Tradition Minute Repeater Tourbillon, Ref. 7087, by Breguet: an 18-karat rose gold watch combining a one-minute tourbillon with a chiming minute repeater and an inverted right-angle lever escapement, which is visible on the dial side of the watch.
The HM6-SV by MB&F: crafted of multiple sapphire crystals and platinum, this watch features the hours and minutes on revolving spheres. Just 10 pieces will ever be made of this version.
Harmony Tourbillon Chronograph by Vacheron Constantin: this watch, which was launched last year after seven years of research and development, boasts a number of technologically advanced features. It combines with a stunning tourbillon shaped like the Maltese cross.
Richard Lange Tourbillon Pour le Merite by A. Lange & Sohne: crafted in 18-karat white gold, this timepiece features a unique fusée-and-chain transmission as well as a tourbillon with a patented stop-seconds mechanism.
